Alex Guerrero is a Dominican artist whose primary interests are poster design, printmaking, and pinhole photography. During the 1980s art movement in the Dominican Republic he won several prizes for his posters, one of which provided him with an opportunity to travel to Prague, Czech Republic. During that trip Guerrero was offered a scholarship to study at VŠUP, the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague (Vysoká Škola Uměleckoprůmyslová v Praze). He later accepted the offer and studied at the studio of Czech artist Zdeněk Ziegler and other recognized masters in the field, where he specialized in poster design. Guerrero was an active participant in the Velvet Revolution in Czechoslovakia in 1989, creating graphics for the newspaper Studentský List published at the College of Journalism in Prague. He also participated in other art exhibits and cultural events during that time. In 1994 Guerrero relocated to New York City where he began working as a commercial graphic artist and continued to create posters for cultural art events in the city. In 2010 he became one of the founders of the printmakers collective DominicanYork Proyecto Grafica in New York City, which focuses on contemporary printmaking. Guerrero continues to explore various non-toxic techniques for printmaking and to develop printmaking workshops for the Queens Museum and other cultural and arts institutions.

Alex Guerrero es un artista visual dominicano. Su obra gira en torno del afiche, el grabado y la fotografía estenopeica, entre otros medios. En la década de los ochenta en Santo Domingo, ganó varios premios en concursos de afiche. Uno de los últimos afiches premiados le brindó la oportunidad de viajar a Praga (capital de la antigua Checoslovaquia, hoy República Checa). En el curso de aquella visita le fue ofrecida una beca de estudios en la Academia de Arte, Diseño y Arquitectura de Praga (VŠUP), que aceptó estudiando en los talleres de maestros como Zdenek Ziegler, especializándose en carteles.Guerrero participó activamente en la Revolución de Terciopelo de noviembre de 1989, creando gráficas para el periódico estudiantil Studentský List, publicado en la Facultad de Periodismo de Praga. También tomó parte en muestras graficas colectivas durante aquellos históricos días. En1994 Guerrero se mudó a la ciudad de Nueva York, en donde reside, trabajando en la industria gráfica como especialista en pre-prensa y creando afiches para numerosos eventos en esa ciudad. Es miembro fundador de DominicanYork Proyecto GRAFICA, un colectivo de grabadistas de ascendencia dominicana. Guerrero continúa explorando diferentes maneras no tóxicas del grabado y desarrollando talleres para el Museo de Arte de Queens y otras instituciones.
